Interested in Studying Abroad?

Studying abroad is something many college students are interested in.  With our unique Block structure, students are able to travel abroad for just a few weeks or for entire semester.  Our Center for Global Studies recently sponsored a Study Abroad Fair to display different opportunities that were available to students.  Representatives from Academic Programs International, American Institute for Foreign Study, International Studies Abroad, Knowledge Exchange Institute, Semester at Sea and Veritas Study Abroad were on hand to discuss their programs. In addition, information from 10 well-known study abroad companies who offer study abroad travel experiences to more than 50 different countries were available.

The Study Abroad Fair included information about Tusculum College's London study abroad program from program director Dr. John Paulling, professor of mathematics; information about the College's Study Abroad and Global Awareness (SAGA) Club and information on financing the studying abroad experience.

President's Society Member Named "Student of the Block"

JohnDavid “J.D.” Howard, a senior accounting and economics major from Perry, Ga., has been named “Student of the Block” for the Fifth Block of the 2010-11 academic year at Tusculum College.
The Student of the Block Award is presented each block by the Office of Student Affairs to recognize students for academic achievement, leadership on campus and contributions to the college community. A plaque describing Howard’s accomplishments will join those describing past honorees prominently displayed in the Niswonger Commons and other campus buildings.
Howard has made an impact on the Tusculum College community, giving his best whether he is in the classroom, on the athletic field or serving in campus organizations.

You're getting warmer...

Hi everyone!

Who else is happy that Spring is right around the corner?  I am!  Spring brings warmer weather, picnics, Financial Aid packages, and decisions from students like yourself on where you plan to further your education!

Please be sure that when you complete your FAFSA that you include Tusculum's school code (003257) so that once you're accepted we can send you your Financial Aid package.  After you've have a chance to look over it with your parents, and everything looks good, it's time to make your next step into becoming a TC Pioneer!  The enrollment deposit for Tusculum is $300.  It's not an extra fee, it'll come off of your bill.  Making your enrollment deposit tells us you plan on attending this Fall, and your name goes on the list to be housed for your dorm room.

You're so close to making your decision on where to attend college!  Should you have any questions or want to talk more about your deposit, please contact your Admission Counselor.  We'd be happy to help!

Every Penny Counts!

Have you finished your FAFSA?  If you have, Tusculum is usually one of the first to send out Financial Aid Packages to students and families.  We know this is a very valuable component in your decision making process and try to get it in your hands as soon as we can.  We even call each student to make sure you received your package and understand it.  If you receive this letter and have any questions, go ahead and call your counselor and we’ll be glad to explain it in more detail.  

This is also the time to apply for outside scholarships! Your high school guidance office is a great resource for these awards. You can also search online at Fastweb.com. In fact, here are some details on a new outside scholarship, if you are looking for an extra $10,000.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program Now Accepting Applications

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, in cooperation with General Electric (GE), has launched a new scholarship program in the president's honor which will provide $10,000 for twenty college-bound high school seniors. The renewable award gives students the potential to accrue $40,000 over four years to use toward the pursuit of a bachelor's degree.

Successful candidates should display exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship in all aspects of life.

"Like President Reagan, candidates use their formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve, and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities," writes Erin Korsvall, program officer of the scholarship program.

In addition, candidates must:

• Be nominated by an eligible community leader (eligible leaders include high school principals, elected officials, or directors of nonprofit organizations)
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent)
• Demonstrate financial need
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Graduate from high school in winter 2010 or spring 2011
• Use the funds disbursed by the scholarship program for tuition, room, and board while pursuing a bachelor's degree at an accredited U.S. college or university in Fall 2011

According to the award website, "GE-Reagan Foundation Scholars are among America’s foremost young leaders who personify the values that President Reagan took to Washington and inspired a nation with three decades ago. Like President Reagan, candidates use the formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities."
