Registration

Hello everyone!

Some say that Memorial Day is the official start of summer. Here at Tusculum, the first Advance Registration Day is our official start of the summer!

For students that are coming to TC this fall, we hold three Advance Registration Days throughout the summer. This gives you the opportunity to come to campus, register for all your classes your Freshman year, and meet with the TC community! Other future Pioneers will be here too, so you get a head start on making new friends. You also get to meet with all the offices on campus, so you'll know who to turn to should you ever have questions.

Tomorrow, May 28, is our first Advance Registration Day this summer, and wow, we are booked up! Our other dates this summer are June 25 and July 23.

To come to Advance Registration, you must make an appointment. This means, you'll need to contact your Admission Counselor or Brandon Connor to schedule that for you. The first appointments are scheduled at 9am EST, and the last ones are scheduled at 3pm EST, and we schedule every half-hour in between. The whole process for you will take around 2 hours to complete, so please talk to your Admission Counselor so that they can tell you how to be prepared.

To register for your classes, you'll need to have made your commitment to come to Tusculum, i.e., have made your enrollment deposit. Remember, there are 3 ways in which to do this:

-call your Admission Counselor to give payment over the phone with a Visa or Mastercard.

-mail a check or money order to the Office of Admission, PO Boc 5051, Greeneville, TN 37743.

-pay online at https://www.tusculum.edu/payment/

I can't wait to see you on campus this summer registering for classes! Have a great weekend, and we'll see you soon!

May 28 Advanced Registration Tips

I imagine most of the blog readers are students who have already decided to come to Tusculum.  I hope you have enjoyed following the news and updates on our Admission Blog.  I just wanted to pass on some inside tips on what to expect at the May 28 Advanced Registration (ARD).

-Most importantly for some, your ID card photo will be taken on this day.  So, if you don't want to be stuck with "bed head" or "sleepy eyes" on your ID card for the next four years, here is your heads up!

-About every 30 minutes we will have representatives take families to view a resident hall room.  This will give some of you your first look at the living arrangements.  Checking out a room can be very exciting for some.  Almost like an empty canvas, this opportunity will allow you and your family to visualize all of the creativity that can be incorporated into a college dorm room.

-If you plan on having a car on campus, bring in your license plate number, make and model of your car.  You will register your car for your parking pass on this day.

-Check the weather for Greeneville.  Cool clothes or an umbrella can make all the difference in the world in terms of comfort on this day.

-You will be rubbing shoulders with over 100 incoming Tusculum students coming from all over the world!  Don't be shy and just talk to your family.  This is a great chance to start meeting the people you will spending the next four years of your life with.  I have seen future best friends, roommates, and teammates meet at their ARD event.  Take advantage of this.

I hope these five things will help you and your family enjoy your ARD experience on May 28.

President's Society Selects Faculty Mentor of the Year

Dr. Bill Garris, assistant professor of psychology, was honored as this year’s Faculty Mentor of the Year by the President’s Society at its year-end banquet hosted by Dr. Nancy B. Moody on Tuesday, May 4. During the “Reading of Celebration”, Dr. Garris was recognized as one who exemplifies the true meaning of the faculty role outside the classroom. The President’s Society recognized Garris for his countless hours spent in helping the College complete the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges as the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) director while honoring his teaching responsibilities.

Dr. Garris was also recognized for his efforts to personally educate each member of the President’s Society about the reaffirmation of accreditation process and the QEP, problem solving with reflective judgment. Due to his dedication, the President’s Society members were able to play a key role in the reaffirmation of accreditation process. His knowledge, along with his positive spirit and uplifting attitude, helped bolster and fortify the Society’s role as campus leaders.

The President’s Society is an elite student organization dedicated to promoting and fortifying the mission of the College. The students serve as ambassadors for the College, serve as hosts for campus visits, participate in leadership and ethics training and assist with campus events.

Sharing memories and achievements... How to finish up your Senior year the right way.

I just wanted to take some time to congratulate the senior class of 2010 for completing a very memorable milestone in your lives. These last few weeks that you are in school are an opportunity to reflect back and share some of the experiences that you have shared with your friends, teammates, and families. Without excluding your studies too much, I would encourage every senior to take some time during class changes or down time in class to share a memorable story or experience that occurred during your high school career. Funny or serious, it doesn’t matter, you’re probably already doing it and don’t even realize it. The people you are sharing these memories with are people you might not get to see as often as you currently do. So finish up your high school career spending time with the ones who were involved in these memories.

Some of these reflections will be conducted formally by your coaches, peers, and educators. Many schools will have an awards night to recognize students’ achievements during the time they spent in high school. If you have decided that you are coming to Tusculum, we would love to contact your guidance department and tell them about your personal scholarship offer. If your school is close to Tusculum and would like for us to try to present your scholarship during your awards night, just let us know. We will check to see if we have a representative available.
